Busy busy busy

Long time, no updates. Flat fixing clinic was a big success, with another on the way June 2nd.

Bike to Work week was a good week as always. Lots of people commuting, even in the not so great conditions. Plenty of you stopped in and picked up some last minute supplies.

We're gearing up for an amazing summer of riding. Lots of new stuff, and keep your eyes on this space for special offers and sales announcements.

Keep crankin'

Tomorrow!

05 04, 2009 11:49

Flat fixing clinic is tomorrow! (Tuesday May 5th) We'll be starting at 6 pm. Zero costs, no registration, just show up and learn. If you can't make it, fear not, because the first Tuesday in June we'll be doing this all again. See you then.

Firstly, Bike to Work Week is coming May 9-15th. Come in and get some supplies/advice. Don't forget to register on http://www.bikeiowa.com/ and sign up for our group, it's listed as Kyle's Bikes.

Secondly, this coming Tuesday is our flat fixing clinic. It promises to be a fun and informative time. Starts at 6pm.

Next Tuesday (May 5th), our first flat fixing clinic is happening. Come get expert instruction in flat changing, tips to make the job faster and easier, and have all your questions answered. Class should get going around 6pm, so show up a little early. No registration needed, just show up. No costs either, but you may wish to purchase some of the tools we'll be using so you can change one yoruself the next time you get a flat. See you next Tuesday.

Attention tri-people, time trialists, aero freaks, and assorted go fast folks: we have in store, right now, several pairs of new SRAM carbon aero wheels. S80 and S60. Very sharp looking, very aero, ready to go fast, and cut time off your efforts. Great deal on these, a set of S80s retails for $1400, we've got it for $1200. S60s are $1300 and we're rocking $1100 for a pair.

Spring seems to finally be sticking around, and as such, you need new gear. Lightweight jackets, knickers, gloves, and more, we've got them, you need them.

We've been pretty busy, but we've managed to plan a flat fixing clinic. May 5th(that's a Tuesday), we'll be leading a flat fixing clinic starting at 6 pm. It should last a little over an hour, and costs nothing. If you want to bring a wheel, that'd be great, but we've got plenty. We're hoping to make it a monthly thing on first Tuesday of every month. That way if you need a refresher, want to bring friends, or are just new and missed the last one, it's not much of a wait.

Eastern Bikes have arrived! We've got a bunch of 'em, and they're all awesome. Sweet bikes for the money, awesome style and colors, several models in stock and ready for you to come check out. PayDirts, Elements, Janes, Ramrodders, etc etc, they're here and lookin' great. We've also got some good deals on remaining 2008 Specialized bmx bikes.

Unrelatedly, we will be closed this coming Sunday (April 12th) for the Easter holiday, and the cobbled classic, Paris-Roubaix, that should be on tv that afternoon. Watch it for some serious old style bike racing.

Firstly, big congratulations to Kyle! He passed his certification. It was pretty intense, with a 133 question written exam, and a several hour practical portion where he had to fit someone under the watchful and critial eye of a proctor. He was one of ten people to begin the class (the first of its kind) and not everyone passed. So far Specialized hasn't said how many passed, but regardless Kyle is now one of nine or fewer people in the country with this certification.

More: We just place a pretty big order with Eastern Bikes, an excellent bmx brand. We're gonna a bunch of bikes in a ton of colors in the very near future. We think Eastern does a heckuva job with style and color, all in a durable, functional package. We'll post an update when they arrive, but come check out the new catalog, and our current crop of bmx bikes, many of which are on sale.

Much More: Bike to Work Week registration is live on bikeiowa.com, Mark started a group/team this morning under the name Kyle's Bikes. Register and ride with us.

New stuff and a busy spring

03 21, 2009 14:33

Long time, no updates. Simply got really busy. Lots of new stuff in the shop. Come check it all out. Lots of clothing, lots of new gear, new pedals, etc etc. Later next week Kyle is going to Specialized's California headquarters for a few days for BG Fit Certification. This is an invitation only class/testing program, and once he returns he'll be one of 12 people in the nation with this level of fitting education.

Final Results + Outside rides

03 02, 2009 16:16

The league is technically over, but many of you still have a course or two (or more) to ride. No problem, come in and finish up when you can. Mark's been compiling the results he has, and hopes to post some sort of final compilation shortly. A few people have expressed interest in having all their results on a single sheet, and if you're one of those folks, talk to Mark and he can make that happen.

This weekend we set our clocks an hour ahead, which means more daylight at the end of the day. Nicer weather is also on the way. All this adds up to a better chance of us riding outside on Tuesdays. For the first few Tuesdays after the time change, we'll play it by ear, and make the decision mostly based on the weather. If it is nice enough to go outside, we'll be trying to leave around 5:30 and make the most of the daylight we have. Depending on how ambitious you are and how cloudy it is, lights might be a good idea, just in case. We'll likely head up the new Ankeny to Woodward trail for a while, turning around when necessary.

Come join us.

Weeks 11 & 12, plus more

02 25, 2009 18:46

Week 11 is effectively behind us, but due to it's nature is going to be harder to score/compile results, but look for those in the future. Week 12 is racing yourself on Week 1: Madrid, and looking for some improvement, this should be much easier to score, plus it'll be a lot more fun to compare. With the league ending and the time change coming soon, we hope to be riding outside again on Tuesdays in the near future. If you've been storing your bike here for the league, it'd be really swell if you could take it with you when you're finished with week 12. We're taking in tons of repairs, and could use the space. Thanks, and check back for new cool products, ride news, and other shop stuff.
